Simple rooms in old house with fantastic garden
Pros: We loved having the huge breakfasts with lots of fruit at the nice tables within the beautiful green and large garden. We liked the 2 little baby chicks that were around everywhere. The pool is clean and welcoming. Quality towels were provided every day. Note that daily towel replacements are actually not preferred by many guests, so better replace on demand to save water and the environment. There was always free cold drinking water by a dispenser and a spacious parking place. The place is quiet and serene with only sounds of birds and within walking distance from the historical center. The staff is very friendly.
Cons: We stayed in the 2 downstairs double room without windows and natural daylight (except the small bathroom window). The lightning was functional bright white and missed a cosy atmosphere. The shower lacked a sufficient stream of water and need thorough decalcification. The bedrooms were clean and freshly painted, in contrast to the common kitchen, which was very old and a bit sticky. The outside bar near the pool seemed unused for a very long time and smelled. This area must have had better days.

Lovely and chilled place
Pros: We were welcomed and checked-in with Catalina, who was super friendly and nice. She even gave us some tips about the area. - The room was big and comfortable, and all amenities were working properly, specially the shower jet! They've got a reserved space for parking if you go on your own car, and this is locked during the night. Breakfast was super cool here, served in the villa's garden and homemade!
Cons: Nothing, everything was pretty cool :)

Brilliant place. A real family and Dominican welcome.
Pros: What a gorgeous location! A garden sanctuary in the heart of the city. We got the family room, which was spacious, with two separate bathrooms, very useful! Great breakfast of eggs and fruit, bread and jam, and coffee, in the outside garden by the pool. Also, safe secure parking. Altogether, I couldn't fault it.
Cons: Possibly put a dehumidifier in the basement rooms? For one night it was fine, we opened the windows and no mosquitos.

Peace and tranquility in lovely friendly garden setting
Pros: A little haven of peace and tranquility in a busy town. Really lovely owner who gives good advice and makes sure you don’t get ripped off with taxis etc. Great breakfast and big fresh water containers to fill your bottles. Gorgeous garden and pool area and nice place to chill for solo travellers. It’s within walking distance from the colonial area and main attractions - and thank goodness - a world away from the big all inclusive hotels and cruise ships.
Cons: The bedrooms are quite basic (but clean) and don’t have windows. But that doesn’t matter as you have the lovely garden area and it’s cheap. Puerto Plata itself is really not worth visiting. If you are arriving or leaving from the airport better to stay in Cabarete.
